Best Men’s Hiking Boot Reviews
1. The Merrell Men's Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot
The first hiking boot up for review is the Merrell Men's Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot. Merrell is a fantastic company with a focus on creating boots of the highest quality. This is a standard hiking boot, rising to just above the ankle and is known for its comfort and durability during times of intense hiking.
The Merrell Men's Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot has been made out of both suede leather and mesh material. The sole is synthetic with a Vibram TC5 outsole to allow for increased traction over rough terrain. It is equipped with the Merrell air cushion, placed in the heel, that increases your stability and absorbs shocks when jumping from great distances.
What I like about this boot is that it is very breathable, allowing a lot of air flow around the foot on a hiking trail. They are extremely comfortable to wear with a variety of colors to choose from ranging from Earth tone, to green tone, to light blue.
I did find the worst aspect of the boot was the waterproof feature; while they are great in the rain, if you are trying to wade through a small stream, your feet are likely to get wet.
2. The KEEN Men's Targhee II Mid Wide Hiking Shoe
Next up on our best men’s hiking boots for wide feet is the KEEN Men's Targhee II Mid Wide Hiking Shoe. The common theme you’ll notice among our five boots is that they each come from extremely reliable brands. Keen is one that focuses primarily on their quality of manufacturing and when you buy from them you can be sure you are getting a boot that will last a long time.
The KEEN Men's Targhee II Mid Wide Hiking Shoe is available in either Shitake/Brindle or Black Olive/Yellow colors. The first thing I noticed about these boots is that they are not the best to look at, and if you are looking for style, you may want to buy somewhere else.
However, for what they lack in style, they make up for in comfort and durability. The sole has been rubberized for increased traction and they have been made for those with wide feet. The shaft measures around 4.5 inches from the arch, and the boot opening is about 12.5 inches around.
To increase airflow to the boot, the leather lining has been made with breathable features. These boots come with the exclusive KEEN.DRY waterproof technology that works incredibly.
Even if you are going through a river your feet will stay dry for an extended period of time. I did find that these boots are very comfortable, and I spent hours in them without ever getting tired.
3. Columbia Men's Newton Ridge Plus Ii Waterproof Hiking Boot
The Columbia Men's Newton Ridge Plus Ii Waterproof Hiking Boot is another one of the best men’s hiking boots for wide feet. We wanted to include something for everyone on this list, no matter what your budget may be, which is why the Columbia brand is on here. Even though they are a cheaper alternative, they still make boots of high quality, so you receive the best of both worlds.
The Columbia Men's Newton Ridge Plus Ii Waterproof Hiking Boot is available in a variety of styles and colors ranging from dark banana, to grey, to brown, to black; each made out of both leather and synthetic material.
There is a newton ridge placed around the ankle, with waterproof seals that completely block all debris and rain from getting into the shoe. It features the Omni grip rubberized outsole that allows for an increase in traction, that has been primarily designed to overcome muddy situations.
I will say after wearing this boot that it is not the most comfortable one on the list. Sometimes to get a cheaper product, you do have to let go of some perks. That being said, the traction is really great, especially in muddy terrain, and it does keep all water out. These boots could use a lot more breathability as my feet were incredibly sweaty the entire time.
4. Salomon Men's X Ultra 3 Wide Mid GTX Hiking Boots
The Salomon Men's X Ultra 3 Wide Mid GTX Hiking Boots are the exact opposite of the Columbia boots that came before, as they are on the higher end of the spectrum. These boots are for people who are possibly looking to splurge a bit in order to get a shoe of the highest quality. Salomon is dedicated to three things: comfort, style, and traction.
The Salomon Men's X Ultra 3 Wide Mid GTX Hiking Boots come in one of four styles: black, gray, black/brown, or gray/green. Each of them is made out of textile and synthetic material, with a rubberized sole.
These have been created with the anatomy in mind, holding your foot in place during descents while hiking. The traction on these boots is incredible, preventing all slippage so you can be safe and secure.
The chassis on these boots is asymmetrical, maximizing your overall stability and cushioning your landing should you fall. This decreases the amount of fatigue you can face while on a hiking trip.
The sole has been built with two different types of rubber, strategically placed, in order to intensify your grip. The heel has patterned rubber to grab terrain. These come with a 2-year limited warranty.
I really do love these boots. They are extremely comfortable, and well worth the price if you are looking for hiking boots that will last a long time. They also increase your safety while hiking.
5. Dr. Comfort Ranger Men’s Hiking Boot
The final hiking boot up for review is the Dr. Comfort Ranger Men’s Hiking Boot. Like the previous pair of boots, these are another high-end make. The first thing you will notice about them is that they are very stylized and look much better than the previous four boots on this list.
You can purchase the Dr. Comfort Ranger Men’s Hiking Boot is either chestnut or black, and they both look high quality and stylish. They are extremely lightweight, making hiking a breeze, and are equipped with a no tie elastic lace. This makes putting them on and taking them off a breeze.
These are not boots for extreme hiking however, and I worry that in a rainstorm or hiking through muddy terrain they will get ruined.
We wanted to include something for everyone on this list. If we had to choose the best men’s hiking boot for wide feet out of this list, it would be the Salomon Men's X Ultra 3 Wide Mid GTX Hiking Boots. Even though they are pricier than the others, they are comfortable, have the best traction possible, and even come with a warranty should anything go wrong.
